Keep Calm and Write On: Writing to promote tranquility and resilience in an anxious age
Do the words “calm” or “happy” seem like descriptions that could only apply to someone else? How about “Joyous”? “Tranquil”? “Relaxed”? “Exuberant?”
How long has it been since you could describe yourself that way?
Would you like to experience those states of being regularly in your life again?
Being a teenager is difficult enough without having to deal with overwhelming worry or without feeling deeply sad or hopeless all the time.
There are techniques available for lessening or even eliminating these burdens. Writing is one of those techniques. And through writing, other coping strategies can be experimented with as well – and all in a safe, supportive environment of peers and a facilitator.
At the Blue Heron Studio in Uxbridge Ontario, starting March 24th for 6 weeks from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., you will have the opportunity to explore various strategies for dealing with anxiety and depression through a writing workshop with other high school-age participants.
