Could you survive on $733 a month?

This is the question we took away from the groundbreaking Poverty Maze event, which took place on Wednesday November 6th, 2019. This incredible event was put on by the Uxbridge Poverty Coalition to educate residents, first responders and stakeholders on the shocking realities facing those who fall below the poverty line on a daily basis.

Attendees were asked to put themselves in the shoes of someone in need of assistance, and seek out the necessary resources available to them. While there are so many incredible organizations out there, accessibility, extremely long wait times, and cost all affect the ability for those in need to actually utilize these services. Cam's Kids was amongst the organizations present at this years event, educating attendees on what services we offer and how to access them. The number one issue we heard - if you fall below the poverty line, you don't have access to WiFi. This was truly eye opening for us. Without WiFi, our free resources suddenly become more difficult to attain. Thankfully, we came up with a solution - the Public Library, which offers free WiFi for all members of the community. Now this is far from ideal, but it is just one of the many difficulties those in need face on a daily basis.

We thank the Uxbridge Poverty Coalition for inviting us to attend such a groundbreaking event, and for helping open our eyes on ways we can better serve our community!
