Dealing with stress and anxiety on a daily basis is exhausting, depleting and can feel all encompassing. It doesn’t have to be this way as there are many techniques and strategies that help to alleviate and even eliminate this chronic condition. Reiki is one of those modalities. I’ll give you an overview of this type of healing along with the many benefits.
I didn’t really understand chronic anxiety until I came in contact with a number of people who lived with it on a daily basis. Some were family and friends and others were the coaching clients I was working with in my practice. As I began to understand the toll that anxiety was taking on their lives - their health, mental state, work life and relationships, I began to look for alternative ways to help them shift this.
Reiki has been one of those answers. Reiki is an energetic healing technique where energy is directed through the hands of the practitioner that is gentle, non-invasive and non-manipulative. All aspects of the person are treated - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. The greatest Reiki healing benefits are stress reduction and relaxation, which trigger our natural healing abilities.
During a Reiki treatment, you’ll lie on a massage table fully clothed. The treatment is primarily hands off, except with a few hand positions. The practitioner will work with your energy field by placing their hands above your body. It is a common during a Reiki treatment to enter a meditative state, while experiencing deep relaxation and peace.
One of the biggest benefits for those looking for stress or anxiety reduction is that Reiki helps turn off the ‘fight or flight’ response - ‘stress response’ and allows the recipient to access their parasympathetic - ‘quiet’ - nervous system.

Reiki is subtle but can have profound effects. Many of my clients report less overall stress and ability to handle situations more effortlessly. A decrease in fatigue levels is common and clarity of focus is another result. As well, there is an overall sense of well-being and a stronger sense of personal power. It is powerful because it addresses the mind, body and soul ( and emotions ).
While a single session is beneficial, in my experience a series of 3 sessions is more impactful and will allow you to sense the progressive shift in your energy.
My belief is that there are many effective ways to overcome anxiety and that it is about finding the right personal combination. Deep breathing, mindfulness, meditation as well as tapping ( Emotional Freedom Technique ) are all beneficial to decrease anxiety of the mind and nervous system. Reiki is another such tool that, if you’re drawn to experience it, can be a step in your journey to manage your anxiety so that you can free up energy to put towards things that matter to you.
