Kyle Stinson is a familiar name in the Cam's Kids family. As a veteran Cam's Kids Ambassador, the Ottawa University senior has given freely of his time, talent, and enthusiasm to a number of the organization's initiatives, and continues to serve as a mentor to many in the Cam's Kids community.
For our first in a series of Cam's Kids profiles, we caught up with Kyle for a snapshot of one of our longest-running volunteers...
I became involved with Cam’s Kids when the Hicks family first decided to start the ambassador program. Andrew Hicks reached out to myself and a few others to see if we wanted to help with Cam’s Kids by becoming ambassadors, and I jumped on the opportunity.
I am currently acting as the Programs Director and my responsibilities include starting up new programs, events, and initiatives. I have also helped with the Cam’s Kids Volleyball Tournament, Yoga in the Park, The Sandy Hill Winter Classic, Cam’s Kids Candy Cane Campaign, and participated in all our other amazing events!
I would have to say the Cam’s Kids Candy Cane Campaign is of the more memorable initiatives. It had the greatest outreach and we received amazing feedback from the candy cane recipients. Plus, how cool does the Cam’s Kids Candy Cane Campaign sound?! It has a nice ring to it.
I've not only gained a great knowledge about the impact that anxiety can have on someone’s life, but also how to help those in need to manage and overcome their anxiety. I've had people reach out to me personally looking for some guidance on how they can manage their own anxiety, and many of them have said that they have used the coping mechanisms on the website to help calm themselves down and better manage their anxiety.
I am in my last semester of university and currently searching for a summer job while I plan my trip to New Zealand for 2018. On my days off, I like to snowboard, slackline, and play the ukulele.
