Meet Uxbridge Ambassador Miranda

Like many Cam's Kids Ambassadors, Miranda Sarosi's connection to both the organization and its work comes from deep personal experience. As both a childhood friend of Cam Hicks and his family, and someone who is no stranger to anxiety, becoming an ambassador was an easy choice.

“I had known Cam since third grade and have been living with my own stress-related condition for as long as I can remember,” she recalls. “So when Cam's Kids started, I kind of naturally joined.”

Miranda lives with Conversion Disorder, a condition in which stress can trigger seizures and other physical symptoms. Working with Cam's Kids, she says, has been hugely influential in her own journey: “Basically, I get stressed about stress and I have to force myself to calm down in order to avoid a seizure, which can also be a fairly stressful thing to do. It's always nice to go to the Cam's Kids website for help, talk to other ambassadors, or even read testimonials to remember I'm not alone.”

This message is one that Miranda aims to share through her participation in Cam's Kids events such as awareness campaigns, school outreach initiatives and fundraisers like Cam's Kids Annual Golf and Volleyball Tournaments. In fostering the Cam's Kids community she is committed to raising awareness for anxiety and other mental health issues.

“It's taken a long time for people to see anxiety and depression as a very real mental health disorder and not just something you can fix by 'being happy',” she says. “That's what Cam's Kids does; it helps people recognize what anxiety is, that there are ways to deal with it and there is an entire community of people just like you who can be a source of support".

Miranda has seen the impact Cams Kid's resources, ambassadors, and programs can have first-hand. She's also been inspired by the organization's growth and the influence it has across Canada, noting, “Starting Cam's Kids has changed so many lives. It's helped a lot of people open their eyes and I hope that Cam knows that”.

Up next, Miranda plans to continue growing alongside Cam's Kids and pursue an education in event management. If her leadership, attitude and commitment to changing lives are any indication, it's a career she’ll succeed and be a natural at.
