Cam’s Kids Ambassadors created a book club initiative to bring students together over the summer months. The Ambassadors decided they would stick with a mental wellness theme, which is why they selected the book ‘What Happened to You?’ By Oprah Winfrey. The book is a documented conversation with Dr. Bruce Perry on ‘the impacts of trauma and how healing must begin with a shift to asking ‘what happened to you?’ rather than ‘what’s wrong with you?’. Although the topics can be heavy, they can also bring light to conversations surrounding mental health. Our team recognizes the importance of having these discussions and therefore holds a safe space to do so.
Last week, the team rose to the occasion, generating meaningful conversation on the topics throughout the first few chapters of their book. The evening was filled with laughs, jaw dropping, “ah ha” moments and thoughtful discourse. It is a prime example of how distance cannot stop our Cam’s Kids Ambassadors from connecting with each other and continuing education/awareness of the relationship between anxiety and the body. We want to thank everyone who came out and we look forward to our next meetings as we dive deeper into the book!
