The Fourth Annual Cam's Cup Pond Hockey Tournament (previously named Ponder This) took place this past Saturday February 2nd, 2019. Not only did the tournament have a new name, but it also had a new venue- Elgin Pond, Uxbridge! This new location allowed us to not only have more teams registered, but also engage far more members of the community than ever before! 20 teams, 120 participants, over 30 volunteers and countless Uxbridge residents made the day a huge success!
With the extra space on Elgin Pond, we were able to have 4 full sized ponds (96' X 60') fitted by wooden boards, as well as 2 large public skating pads for spectators and community members. Players were granted 3-30 minute games, with 4 successful teams moving on to the semi-finals.
In the end, it was Specified Roofing/Primary Construction who took home the big W, and now have their name carved on the trophy for all to see at the Uxbridge Arena.
Along with the hockey games and public skating, participants were entertained by Dan Pollard from 105.5 Hits FM. Dan not only played an eclectic mix of music, but was also our energetic MC, keeping the energy alive!. In between games, participants were kept warm by the endless supply of hot coffee and tea generously donated by Starbuck's Uxbridge. When this didn't cut it, participants were invited to a modern warming bus courtesy of Bee-Clean. After working up an appetite, Annina's Temptation Food Truck, Tim Horton's Timbits and Mars Chocolate bars were there to fuel the grr, and Second Wedge had their kegs tapped and ready to pour.
While the day is filled with fun and games, it is also important to take a moment and reflect on why we were gathered- to ensure Cam's legacy of love and kindness lives on, and to instill conversation about anxiety and the many resources available for those struggling.
Thank you to Flynn Roofing, Specified Roofing, Primary Construction and the remainder of our corporate and non-corporate sponsors for helping us do just that!
Thank you to all the local businesses who generously donated raffle prizes, contributing to the events' success.
Thank you to Superfly Racing for their expertise and dedication organizing this year’s tremendous tournament. A big thank you to all our volunteers for ensuring the day went off without a hitch!
Finally, thank you to the Uxbridge Township and community members who supported us every step of the way.
The value of the generosity and kindness shared is immeasurable. Fulfilling our mission to "Support Young People Struggling with Anxiety" would not be possible without you!
