What is the Pomodoro Technique?
The Pomodoro technique is a tried-and-true time management method, operating on the principle that tasks need to be broken up, and breaks need to be taken, in order for the task to be finished effectively.

The Pomodoro Technique is a tried-and-true time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo. This method operates on the principle that tasks need to be broken up, and breaks need to be taken, in order for the task to be finished effectively. This timer-based technique can be used in any context and whatever you need it for such as studying, writing a paper, or finishing a big chore around the house!

To try the Pomodoro Technique, do the following:

  • Decide what you’ll be working on
  • Set a 25-minute timer (25 minutes = 1 Pomodoro), and start your work
  • When the timer goes off, take a short break (5-10 minutes)
  • Set the timer for another 25 minutes and continue working
  • Repeat this for four Pomodoros (100 minutes of working time), then take a longer break (20-30 minutes)

The Pomodoro technique is great, especially during midterm/exam season when your brain is in multiple different places and you’re starting to feel overwhelmed with tasks and to-dos. You may not be able to focus for hours on end, but you can definitely focus for only 25 minutes! Good luck!
